Tommorrow is the Bristol Comic Expo 🙂
The first convention that I ever went to when i was in Uni and still a wonderful array of independent comic books, artists, stalls, talks and many more delightful and interesting things. The Cyborg Kitty stall will be there minus (unfortunately) me 😦 Due to a few issues with travel, but it will be hosted by the wonderful Dave who will hopefuly have with him The Wheel of Awesome which is always a fun thing to try your luck on, so go and visit him even if it is just to say that you wish that i was there 🙂
Truthfuly going and picking Dave’s brains is probably a good idea, I think he has some wonderful comic book ideas coming up and you can find out what weird ideas he as in the pipeline or just try and get him to draw you an image of a very scary Cyborg Kitty. If all else fails when quizzing and talking to the artist in black that is the Dave one sure fire way to get his attention is to mention his favourate all time Batman villian, not the Joker, not my favourate the Riddler, no…the man they know as BANE!. I think when we were at Cardiff in March he mentioned Bane in nearly every other sentence. So if you want a great debate about the man who broke the Bat go talk to his number one fan 🙂
Other people that should be checked out if you are going to the Bristol Con, are the people from The Great Escape who have a new Gabriel Cushing comic which should be out soon, and an awesome Anthology of short stories funded by Kickstarter they also have a lot of ther fun stuff icluding badges, which are my favourate thing to get at conventions, you should see my bag it looks like an exsplosion in a badge factory 🙂
To sum up 🙂
If you are going to Bristol Comic Expo, go and have lots of fun, enjoy the comics, talks and art 🙂
I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend 🙂
What could be better then a Cyborg Kitty i hear you cry…..A Skating Cyborg Kitty 🙂 Isn’t she the cutest 🙂
Below it are some of the original designs, and aside from the bow it is very hard to tell the cat is a girl, which is why we went for a more figurative version 🙂 The final design is a lot sleeker 🙂
I do love this little skating Kitty 🙂
Well that was a very exhausting and awesome weekend last week filled with madness and fun geekey ideas and people.
The place where I live is not really known for enjoying its comics and geekey trivia and it is always nice to go to a convention and meet others who are just as into, sometimes more so, comics, films, TV and other awesome geekey endeavours as I am 🙂
This time on the stall we had a game to guess the name of the Skull. This was my idea and came from the events I used to help my Nanna with at the church and there was usually a guess the Teddy’s name game 🙂 Well this was that except you had to guess what the skull was called. I had a few people tell me that the name was not on the skull and he looked more like a different name altogether, though I think this may have been an odd ploy to win 🙂
We also had another raffle with a difference, this one involved a Magicians box that I painted with stars and made sparkley with spray paint 🙂 Someone actually got that at the end of the convention, not sure what they wanted to put in it, probably notes or jewellery or all those things in a bedroom that never quite have a place 🙂 Who knows?
Other things we had were more hand painted books and a new comic idea that you have to finish the ending yourself for 🙂 I am really interested to see what people come up with for this.
I also got to see the finished book that the great escape did using Kickstarter 🙂 It looks so good I can’t wait to read it 🙂
And of course there were a variety of amazing costumes. Truthfully I can’t remember what they are all from but they all look awesome 🙂
Oh and we made a very happy raffle winner 🙂 She even drew me an awesome picture of the Teddy she won 🙂
Below are the photos of the costumes 🙂 They are really awesome, my favourate is the LOTR/ Hobbit cast, mainly because Kili even went to the effort of drawing on the beard. The guy dressed as bilbo made his own sword which was rather cool 🙂 I also got some photos of lookalikes of the two most recent doctors, but they are on the kat in the attic blog as i didn’t want to overload the blog with photos 🙂
Hope you like the photos 🙂
The skull never told me that he actually needed reading glasses 🙂 I think the rather suit him 🙂
Wow! it is a long time since I wrote a post. Well I suppose not really that long but December seems so long ago now, now that we in a New Year and everyone is reinventing themselves and creating New Yous 🙂 I suppose been as we are now near the end of the first month we will have firmly created these new versions of ourselves or realised that the version we have is fine and without any need for change. I am excited about this year, because it has the potential to be awesome 🙂
After finishing the Ryder comic Dave is now furiously working away on The Wastelands graphic novel 🙂 My favourate one that he is working on, Why? Because it has a giant pink robot in that thinks it is a little girl, if that isn’t the funniest thing ever i am not sure what is 🙂 Obviously it also has some other rather awesome characters in including her over protective Grandfather and a man who is just plain crazy 🙂 So he is fruiously writing and drawing away in a room somewhere trying to create the most awesome comic EVER with a giant pink robot in 🙂
I have a few new ideas, one of which will be (assuming i dont have another fight with the printer 🙂 be at our next convention 🙂 That one i am keeping under wraps for now as it is my little idea and its not that i am worried about anyone stealing it i am more worried that if i speak of it it will fly away and leave me 🙂 I am also lettering my graphic novel and re doing some of the art 🙂
I actually have a few rather cool ideas for the next convention we are at which is in Cardiff on the 2nd and 3rd of March. The problem i have with telling you these ones is this, there are several aspects to this idea and although part of it is along the same lines as the wheel of awesome there is a lot mre to it 🙂 It should be fun and a little something else to maybe inspire or freak people out on our stall. As you may know I love things to be fun and slightly interactive 🙂 But with this one rather then tell you now i think that i am going to leave it as a surprise and then if you come to the convention you will see and understand the sheer weirdness and awesomeness of this new idea. If you do not some though i will of course post photos afterwards for everyone to see 🙂
So in conclusions, we are drawing creating and crafting, ready for the next convention which is Cardiff Comic Expo in, well, Cardiff on the 2nd and 3rd of March it is going to be amazing and fun 🙂 I really can’t wait 🙂
Now back to drawing and of course Tea 🙂
When we were at one of the conventions ( I think it was the first Cardiff Expo) we met the lovely people at the great escape ( http://thegreatesc.com/) who are a group of writers, comic book artists and film makers. I read some of there stories and decided to enter a competition they were having, the competition included illustrating one of the stories on there website 🙂 I chose one about a sad umbrella and entered with this 🙂
I won the competition and was offered the opportunity to Illustrate for there new Anthology. I aggreed. Mainly because i love stories and the stories they have wrote and created range from short to longer, poems, musings, slightly scary or just plain odd. Perfect for (in my mind) for anyone who loves stories. At the moment they are doing a Kickstarter project to raise money for this project and I just thought I would give you the oppotunity to read about it and hear about this project from one of the minds behind it 🙂
So here to do a guest blog post about it is Chrissey Harrison 🙂
A big thanks to Cyborg Kitty for inviting me to share a bit more about the project.
The Great Escape is a collaborative site where we showcase films, fiction and comics and, at times, try to cross the boundaries between them. Great Escapes | Volume 1 http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/thegreatesc/great-escapes-volume-1-0 is the first anthology of fiction that we’ve produced. It features all the fiction published on the website during our first year, along with a bunch of new contributions.
We decided to make it an illustrated anthology for a number of reasons, but mainly just because we loved Kat’s art style. Kat chose three of the stories and did illustrations for us, and then we chose three more to commission, taking the total to six which will be spread out through the book.
It may seem strange to have illustrations in a book for adults, but we say why should kids have all the fun? Just because we got older, why can’t we have pictures in our books? The Great Escape is all about escapist entertainment; we value stories which fire the imagination and most of all those which capture a sense of adventure. We want our anthologies to create that same sense of excitement and adventure our readers got from the books they read as a child, and pictures fit right into that.
We’re taking the opportunity to do something unusual with this anthology by publishing it ourselves. The first edition print run will be financed through Kickstarter where our project has already reached its funding target. Ebook versions will also be available through The Great Escape website and major online retailers of digital content.
If you’d like to pre-order a copy of the anthology and even some great artwork extras from Kat, head on over to our Kickstarter project page http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/thegreatesc/great-escapes-volume-1-0. But hurry, as the campaign closes on 5th December! After that, some of the rewards will no longer be available.
You can also find more information on our Books Page http://thegreatesc.com/books on The Great Escape. Further pre-orders of the book will be available there after the 5th December.
Thanks again to Cyborg Kitty and to Kat.
Back from Cardiff Expo and we had an awesome time 🙂
I love going to conventions because you meet lots of interesting people and unique individuals, Illustrators, comic book lovers ( at comic con this was probably a given), amazing costume makers, writers and all different members of the creative and alternative community 🙂 It is nice to get out there and find people who are just as into comics and things as we are 🙂
So what happened at the Expo. Well the wheel of awesome that I mentioned in the previous post and once I got the hang of telling people what it was, it was not confusing. It was basically a raffle, except you spun the wheel and got a small prize, but then got entered into a draw to win more stuff 🙂 Easy 🙂 Once we added washers either side as well, it spun amazing and sometimes we wondered whether it would actually stop or not 🙂 People seemed to really enjoy this game and I must admit this made me happy as that is what I made it for, to add more fun to the traditional raffle dynamic and to make sure everyone got a prize 🙂
I practically ambushed a girl dressed as the Riddler who walked past our table, as he is one of my favourate batman villians and I absolutely loved her costume 🙂 She seemed quite happy to pose for me and didn’t seem at all terrified by my enthusiasm 🙂
A picture of the fifth doctor and I can’t remember what the other character is off. What I do know is, she made that costume herself and it was incredible, very well done 🙂 I loved it 🙂 even though I didn’t know what character it was.
Another Doctor, this time the tenth one 🙂 A very happy doctor as he wished really hard and his dream came true. These two made an awesome tardis and docor combination and I imagine got stopped for more then one photo 🙂
That is all the photos I got from the expo I didn’t get time to get anymore, but trsut me when I tell you there were loads of amazing cotumes and the entire one day event was lots of fun 🙂
Colour me a shade of excited! Whatever the colour of excited may be. I woke up this morning with the sudden realisation that, not this weekend coming but the one after is the one day convention in Cardiff that we will be going to 🙂
November has felt like such a long time away for so long that it never dawned on me that October was nearing the end and that November was creeping in very fast. This is Awesome! I have been looking forward to this convention for a while and am almost completely ready for it 🙂 There are a few things still to sort and a few last minute preparations, but tother then that we are ready and we are excited to go 🙂
i have a new idea for this convention, that is still being prepared 🙂 the wheel of Awesome! you spin the wheel and you win something, simple as that, well maybe 🙂 you’ll see if you attend the convention and if not I will put up photos when it is completed anyway 🙂 this may be in place of the raffle or perhaps not! There is an idea of everyone who spins the wheel being entered into a draw to win some comics. This is not for certain yet and i am still playing around with some ideas, while the Cyborg Kitties play with wool in the cornor.
In other news the Ryder Graphic novel for which there has been an ashcan available for a while is completed and should be ready for sale soon 🙂 I’ll let you know when I have further details but it looks awesome! and should look even more amazing in print 🙂
So to some up, convention in just over a week 🙂 I can’t wait 🙂 Hopefully will meet lots of people there and have an awesome time 🙂
See you there 🙂
